Montego Bay’s Airport –Like St. Maarten Swayne Martin February 24, 2013 Trips, Video 8 Comments Over spring break 2012, my family travelled to Montego Bay, Jamaica. We had a great time and of course did something aviation along the way! As many people have done before, we walked around the downed fence at the end of the runway. (from the beach). This allowed us to get just feet from the runway for the takeoffs and landings at MBJ. It was so much fun! We stood there, very similarly to SXM airport in St. Maarten, with planes flying just 20-30 feet over our heads. It was crazy! All of the pilots taking off waved to us as they were getting to the runway for their rollout… except one. Sadly for us, we think he turned us in. Shortly after his takeoff, the airport police came up and asked us (nicely) to leave. Oh well, we weren’t there too long. It was definitely fun while it lasted! Once again, little excursions like this all contributed to my growing passion for aviation. I’m sure pilots enjoy having a layover here!!! Reply Swayne Martin March 3, 2013 Yep, it was a lot of fun to go find something aviation to do! My family relaxed at Doctor’s Cover beach while I walked over to the airport. So cool!Swayne Reply capnaux March 3, 2013 When I first flew in the Caribbean, I did a coupla St. Maarten charters. But mostly I flew next door into St. Bart’s, one of the most fun airports I’ve ever been in/out of! Smaller, but there’s a road right at the approach end of the runway, on a hill. Avoiding the cars and pedestrians, you gotta DIVE over the hill to touch down! 🙂 Reply Swayne Martin March 3, 2013 I LOVE watching videos of planes coming in there… It’s an incredible airport. I had no idea you flew into that airport. Such a cool experience I bet. You’ve been all over the place! Swayne Martin Reply Michael Opstelten March 20, 2013 Great blog dude!
